Good stuff is on the way
the quarter is almost over (ehem tomorrow) and after my grueling 11 hr 800 mile drive on Friday I will have a chance, to post the JavaScript that i cooked up. I think it will make everyone's life a little easier when inserting QuickTime into their page. Also i will be updating my site soon, here is a list of goodies on the way:
-HDR Textures (radiance files)
-3 more environments (bringing the total to 12) if anyone has a suggestion for an environment please let me know.
-HDR Cookies (if your not sure what this is trust me their awesome tongue)
-JavaScript for inserting QuickTime into a website
-Updated and Organized links page
-A new page for the Tutorials i have been doing (seem to have a knack for them... one will be included in some SIGGRAPH course notes this year)
-Finally putting some stuff on the Portfolio page

yeah wow I think that about sums it up, that’s a long list..... looks like I wont be having much of a break. Plus I am throwing up a new site just to showcase my demo real. the link to that is BAfitz.com.

Last but certainly not lest i have just finished up my senior 2 project. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. I was mostly responsible for the tank model, match moving, camera alignment (on static shots), and various other tasks as I filled in the gaps. the last shot in the short I was responsible for doing all the matte painting comp and lighting. Also I did the title credits and picked out the audio. As with all group projects at some point it gets hard to tell exactly what you did because everyone is working on everyone's files.

for this project i worked with some really talented artists: Paul Martinez -responsible for the APC model, gun and various other jobs and assets / Bryan Repka - responsible for all the characters (6 in all) / Jesse Hildreth - responsible for all the comp/lighting on the first three shots and rendering.

here you go.... I will post my Houdini final sometime next week.

javascripting and houdini
I have been really busy lately which is why i haven't posted lately. The video below i did during the first 5 weeks of the houdini 2 class here at SCAD. Without getting to technical in this post (next one i will) I managed to render out this intense fur system through mantra with a render time somewhere around 3 minutes a frame!

secondly the video posted above is being written in with a new javascript that i put together. This script makes it easy for people to embed quicktime onto their website. I will be posting the files and instructions on how to use it in my next post. Which will prob be some time after finals lol. we will see.

Finally go check out www.giantfreakingrobot.com it's a new project that i am working on with some kick ass artists!

focal Length info
So right now im working on a project that requires match moving and camera matching. I ran into a problem with matching the focal length because the numbers that where written down for the focal length didn't work. The footage that I am working with was shot with an Panasonic HVX. After some internet digging i found this!

The answer to all your questions is the same:

7.2x.

Every camera you listed is a 1/3" camera, so take the existing focal length and multiply by 7.2, and that's the approximate equivalent focal length as mounted on a 35mm still camera.

Example: DVX is 4.5 to 45mm. 35mm equivalent = 32.5 to 325mm.
Others I know off the top of my head:
VX2000/2100/PD150/PD170: 6mm to 72mm, 35mm equiv = 43mm to 518mm
Z1/FX1: 4.5mm to 54mm, 35mm equiv = 32.5 to 389mm
HVX200: 4.5mm to 58.5mm, 35mm equiv = 32.5 to 420mm
